Track recoil delay?
« on: February 06, 2026, 08:32:07 AM »
I noticed the track recoil triggers exactly with sound and flash but before the barrel itself recoils which looks a bit odd as if the tank did kick
back a bit it would be when the barrel recoils back into the turret. An adjustable delay would be cool to allow the barrel to recoil back.. then the tracks would
trigger. Also, the new effect when hit with IR would be more realistic as the round would have a delay before it hit another tank at range. Just a thought :)

Hi Tom, if the track recoil/sound/and flash do not occur when the barrel recoils, then you can synchronize them using the option dedicated for that purpose in OP Config: "Delay between recoil and light/sound" on the Motors tab, under the Mechanical Barrel heading.

This will not change the track recoil when receiving an IR hit, which will continue to occur the moment the hit is received. I am not inclined to add a delay to that one.

Flash, recoil, sound and track kick back all sync. Just thought a slight delay option on track kick back could allow it to happen when the barrel slams back to the turret.
Just seems it might add a bit of realism.
But just a thought:)

The duration for recoil is small so a delay 0-400 ms to kickback type of adjustment.

Tom, the setting for what I understand you to be proposing is the same as the one I have already mentioned: Delay between recoil and light/sound.

If you want this to be 400mS, just set it to 400.

I'm traveling and can't view settings on my phone. But what I am suggesting is not a barrel recoil delay as barrel recoil, light sound should all trigger at the same time. Which mine do.

I think track/kickback should be delayed maybe 180-250 ms to occur after barrel recoil. As that is when the impact from firing the cannon would affect the tank body. Unless I'm missing something to adjust that:)

Ty!

The delay option that is present in OP Config does not delay the barrel recoil - the barrel recoil occurs immediately, if you have a delay set, then that is the delay between the time when the barrel recoil occurs (immediately), and when the light/sound/track recoil will occur.

So that will do what you are proposing, except it sounds like you want the light/sound to occur immediately, and then the track recoil to occur after the delay. If that is the ask, then I'm afraid I don't think the effort is worth the trouble.

Yes flash, sound and start of barrel recoil should all happen at the same time.

Then a delay in track kick back of 200 ms or so when the tank would  actually jolt backwards after the barrel is fully retracted. Like an artillery piece does if the barrel has a recoil mechanism.

No problem though if hard to do. Just a point :)

To the other current adjustment..probably 10 ms would occur after the cartridge fired in the breech to when the round, blast exited the muzzle. But a lot of these things are for effect to make it ..as you have pointed out  look "feel" authentic!

Personally I just set flash, sound and barrel recoil to occur simultaneously and would delay track kickback 200 ms or so.
Obviously minor suggestion:)

So essentially  the idea is ..the ability to slow track recoil for the time it takes for the barrel to recoil back:)  200ms or so.

Though if a pain to program, I get it!

Thanks,
Tom

So you figure adding a kick back track delay not worth it?

not for one person...
I don´t need that.
Track kickback is the most useless thing.
no real tank show this behavior.

As I said above, it is not worth it.

Figured since kickback setting was already there. But true.. a heavy tank wouldn't roll or kick noticeably.
