Do you like the track recoil effect? On stock henglong it always seems harsh and not realistic. Not that heavy tanks do recoil back..but what settings are you using for track recoil?
I do, it also helps with IR battling and knowing the tank has been hit. Its harsh on a HL board because the HL boards are not very sophisticated and lack the options OP offers. My settings are very slight on firing right now. What I am asking for is the track recoil to trigger when the tank receives a hit.

Hey There!
I have successfully deployed the OP Board twice now, once in a Chaffee and also a StuG, which is my current project. I am curious if we could create a custom scenario that causes the track recoil to trigger on firing and on receiving a hit from the enemy. It could even mirror the track recoil settings, so whatever the OP Config is set to is what makes it recoil on hits and on firing.
One complaint I have received is that its too hard to tell when the tank gets hit. I really enjoy the light sequence that was selected, but maybe that can also be changed to flash like the HL tanks do.
Is this possible?

Congrats Fox on your milestone! Although I know the difference between a working experiment and a full solution is probably still 90 percent of the total effort, yet getting the experiment first to work is where the talent and genius come in, and where success is most gratifying to the engineer. Your comment about "hours of non-stop cacophony" brought back some good (or maybe traumatic) memories. If I recall correctly I think 8-bit sound at 22Khz is what Benedini used, and I agree that is more than adequate. We are far more constrained in terms of quality to the condition of the original recordings themselves, the relatively tiny size of the speakers that can be used in a model, poor accoustics, etc...

Thanks Luke! Yes maybe somebody can implement that idea I also agree that the fan on off quickly wouldn't look great. But a higher idle for a preset amount of seconds would give the extra smoke and I feel, mimic a cold/choked engine. This could be combined with a rough start up sound before settling into the repeat idle. I appreciate you still looking and maintaining the site! I had a very old PC and when it broke stopped messing with the TCB. I got a new PC to handle a 3D scanner for my sculptures but decided to jump back into the TCB for fun and then found Torro making the board so got one for the tank I had without. Weather is nasty, so it is a fun indoor thing to mess with again

Hi Tom, that is not a bad suggestion, however I do not have time for further development on this project, only ongoing support and bug fixes if any are found.
Several years ago when Torro decided to produce the TCB they asked me to create an effect where the smoker "sputters" on startup, and this was implemented (and is still active). It occupies about the first 2 seconds after startup, and the basic idea is something similar to what you propose, but the way it works is that the smoker speed is alternated between max and off for brief intervals, to create "sputtering" or "puffing." It is not terribly effective, because most of the available hobby smoker designs are not reactive enough to make short, abrupt changes in speed very evident.
At any rate, there are no doubt all kinds of various smoker embellishments that could be experimented with, but I am going to leave those for others to work on if they have the desire and ability.

Milestone reached!
After hours of non-stop cacophony and trying out every single Filesystem combination possible in order to solve a specific annoying stutter (SD Cards, SdFat and filesystems be fickle). I have successfully gotten 6 sound channels operational, mixing and getting output on a dinky speaker in good quality!! Along with repetition when needed and quick Fade-in/out. All with just the SD Card, an AVR64DD32 Microcontroller IC and a random Output Amplifier i had lying around.
This means that It looks like this crazy idea of mine is actually going to work! And possibly just as well as the original OPSC. Now that i know that. I can start turning this from experimental to a full solution in both software (all that logic) and hardware. This is probably going to take a while though so don't hold your breath just yet.
On the Audio file specs. These are the parameters I'm currently working with and almost certainly will stick to: =Sample-rate: 22Khz =Bit-rate: 8-bit Signed PCM =Channels: MONO =Format: RAW (Header-Less) This makes it so the processor can just grab data and immediately start multiplying based on volume and adding it in. Not as high in sample and bit rates as the original OPSC, but for mechanical sounds there is no real difference in quality honestly.

Just an idea and not sure if hard to program. Often any engine on start-up emits more smoke. A cool idea would be a "start up" tab to allow full fan speed for an adjustable amount of seconds . One could also add a rough start up sound to work with the extra smoke until it reduces smoke output at warmed up idle.

Hi Cali,
Here's the original picture. There are a few minor differences between the version that was produced by Hobby King and the board as it exists today, but no new components that are polarity sensitive.
Looking at the picture you posted all the important pieces that need to go a certain way (ICs, LEDs and diodes) do appear to be in the correct orientation so I think it looks good.

Hi Luke, I received an update from PCBWay to verify the orientation of the soldered components for the boards I ordered. Do you have the original version of the "top-down" picture of the TCB board as shown on the board layout in the wiki , but without the overlaid text and changes to brightness\opacity ? https://openpanzer.org/wiki/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=wiki:boardlayout.jpgAttached is a picture of the initial board sample they have prepared and from what I can tell everything looks to be assembled correctly but I just want to verify against the known boards Thanks!
