Open Source Sound Dev / Re: Open Source Sound Files
« on: May 11, 2019, 04:26:52 PM »
Quick question, where can I upload my beta sounds? I have a file for the Sherman, that weights about 85 megas. It might grow even more.

I cannot upload them here https://github.com/OpenPanzerProject/Sound-Files/upload/master/SoundSets/OpenPanzerSoundCard

It is taking me ages, but I am trying to cover the lack of skills with loads of love. Hope somebody likes it.  :)

Excelent source. I will give it a try too.

Update here. I have been using those 3 euros free shipping ESCs with decent results, but I also tried this dual ESC:

AliExpress Dual Way Bidirectional 20A ESC

Works good, more smooth that those cheap small mini ESCs... So the wiki can be updated, now this dual ESC have been tested with the TCB.  :)

Hi, I did a small video showing that the use of a rotary switch for the user sounds is possible:

I had to set a small delay up and a delay down of 0,6. Works wonderfully.

The setup is conceived for being a platoon commander tank. First sound is a horn (not sure if the real sherman sound horn sounded like that)but I am including also the real sound of the Mars Sherman siren, so you can choose the one that suits you better.

The rest of the sounds are instructions to other platoon members. Kinda cool to direct the platoon just with the tank, doesnt it?

Music, marches, anthems, and battle sounds are for the sound banks.

EDIT: Yeah, the lipo showed in the video has seen better days. It will go to the bin today. I am swaping all my batteries to Nimh.

Thats a good way to have that rev up sound.

Ill try to have some beta radial Sherman sounds this weekend. I redid all the side sounds (turret, cannon, user sounds and so on)

I am struggling with the motor, but lets see how it goes... Dont wait something special or outstanding, but hey, I am sure somebody will like them.

At least when I drive my tanks people seems to like how it sounds...

Ill probarbly upload the beta sounds, my OP config file and my ersky9x model (Using 9xtreme)

Hi Luke great you have updated the code.

User sounds - Stop All. Is indeed very usefull, thank you very much for adding it.

Transmision engage delays, 60 seconds. I think it is way more than enough for everybody. Me included. Thanks again!

Toggle smoke - Thanks once more  :) :) :) Even when I like the tank to keep controlling the smoke output, sometimes I just need to switch it off at will.

The delay for the user sounds:
I thought about two ways for triggering them, both includes a bit of radio programming. The first way as you mention, is to select the sound with the 6 position switch, and then use another switch to trigger it, and the second I have is to program the switch to have a small delay up. So when turning the 6 pos switch, I have enough time for turning it to the desired position before the requested sound starts playing. A small delay of half a second or even less is OK.

This works, and works very well, but I just was worried about people with non programable radios, or people that just dont know how to do it...

But yeah, I understand it can be crazy complicated to program, hard to configure for most users, and even hard to explain and might bring more harm than good, so I think it might be better to leave it as it is.

So if somebody wants to play the users like me, it is possible.

And now, another idea that I had today while creating sounds:
A rev up sound when stopped. Some people might like to be able to rev up their tanks when stopped... Currently we can play a rev up user sound, but the motor idle is still  there... So I dont know, it might be cool to be able to play that sound, and muting the idling motor sound at the same time.

Please take it just as an idea, not as a request.

And dont worry, I will keep scratching my head to see if there is something else we could add, lol.

Uops, yesterday I forgot to say, if you remove the power switches in the ESCs, you have to bridge the contacts, otherwise it wont turn on. And regarding the small switch that I removed too, thats for activating or not the brake. When removed, you dont need to jumper anything, so thats great.

Lol, just when I have received the ESCs a new dual controller appears...

Anyway, as I said, I just received a couple of those cheap aliexpress 20A Escs, and I did my electronics package for the king tiger.

In the base, you can find the TCB. On top the Open Panzer sound board. Those two black things on the right are the two ESCs, (I removed the bulky on-off switch, and also the brake switch, and of course the red wire from the servo connector) and what about the 16ch receiver? It is between the sound card and sound unit and seems to work well. I run my tank close to me, if it was a plane it could be a problem, but for the tank it just works good. I might need to replace the power wires because the ones I am using might be too small. Also BEWARE! I used a JST connector that came straight from China, and the black wire was the positive and the red the negative! I almost fried my boards, I am glad I just checked before switching it on!

So as seen, a nice and small package can be done, and it will fit most (if not all) of the 1:16 scale tanks.

Hi Luke, another thing that I dont know it it exist right now... When using custom sounds (long music files for example) could you add the option for stopping all the sounds?
I mean, lets say I have 12 long ambient music, I think it would be cool to have an option like "User sound ALL (Instead of a number)  - Stop. That would be easier to program and will take less outputs.

Hi, yes, I meant the screw terminals for elevation and rotation. I like them a lot, and I wonder if it would be possible to replace the power plugs in the boards with them... Unsoldering the old ones and soldering the screw ones is easy, but I think the connectors just wont fit in the holes because the legs distance is diferent (Is wider in the screw terminals).

About soldering the wire directly, Im not going to do it just because the sound board is so cool, that Im planning to use it as stand alone in some more stuff.

Hi, yes, the small switch at the back is for enabling or disabling the brake. Ill update as soon as I have news... Hope it does not do a lot of noise...

Hi Luke, some necro posting here, lol.

I am doing a case for the TCB. The plan is to have the TCB, soundcard, ESCs and 2 receivers in a small package. You know I am cheapman, so I ordered the cheapests ESC I could find. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3-0V-9-4V-2KHz-Driver-Frequency-RC-ESC-20A-Brush-Motor-Electronic-Speed-Controller-W/32884825228.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.687c4c4dEi8lka The second greatest thing is they are small, so I ordered them today, I will post my impressions when I receive them in a month or so, lol. So, so far those ESCs looks great, I will remove the big switch, and probably the small switch (for the brake) too, so it will be a small setup.

According to my plans, the TCB + soundcard + receiver + ESCs is going to be a bit smaller than the Tamiya DMD-MFU units + the receiver.

The thing is, I am also reducing the wiring to a minimum, and definitely I love those plugs with bolts. Is it possible to replace the battery connectors in the TCB and in the soundcard with those ones? I noticed the chinesse jst connectors have the legs closer than the bolt plugs... But I dont know, maybe a bit of drilling might fix it? Thanks in advance!

Hi Luke, I am going to sell my Tamiya electronics, so that means I wont be able to use the Tamiya DMD with the TCB anymore. I started looking for other options and I found this:
https://www.banggood.com/DC-5-12V-30A-PWM-Dual-Channel-Motor-Control-Module-H-Bridge-Motor-Drive-Controller-Board-p-1255703.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN

Do you thing we could use it with the open panzer? If yes, this might be a great find!

EDIT: Ow, I have just read the "DC" and I think that means not radio controlled...

EDIT 2: Option B: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Brushed-ESC-320A-7-4-22-2V-Electric-Speed-Controller-for-RC-540-Dual-Motor/311928740222?hash=item48a066d97e:g:ChMAAOSw~l5aovJw

EDIT 3: I just noticed the ESC above wont work, it just has one servo plug... So yeah, looks like I have to buy a couple of the escs you recommended us in the wiki, or wait for you to release your esc...
