Hi Luke,
Well did some more testing....good and bad news:
I took down my trusty Panther, nearly identical to the KT. Tested it before doing anything to ensure all was working okay still and with the KT settings in the xmtr, still okay (I use the same transmitter on all my German tanks with Sbus).
So I tried to load the KT.opz file into the Panther board, but a required firmware update was needed before I could do that...must have at least version 60, and I had version 48 on the Panther. So I loaded in version 61, the latest dated 9-04-19. I noted after the firmware update, the snoop showed different radio settings, and other things so I loaded settings for the KT into the panther, which it loaded up as usual. Snoop verified what I expected the settings would be.
I turned on the battery switch, with radio on to KT settings on xmtr, started tank and no elevation nor rotation on turret. Changed to Panther settings on xmtr, ditto. This duplicates the King Tiger board. So apparently something is up with the latest firmware update? Good for me as no apparent hardware issues, so I am glad about that. Now two tanks out of commission.....Since you tested the latest firmware on yours, perhaps that windows message is doing something weird on my computer?
Thanks for the help...let me know if you have further ideas....
Jerry

Thank you for the quick reply Luke.
Alas, no turret movement even by holding the stick at 1/2 mast....it simply is not responding. I've tried reset (simply hitting reset button?) which solved nothing. I've re-flashed the board several times too. Your explanation on the turret triggers makes sense, which I usually have my turret stick set to less than 100 percent to avoid accidental triggering. I've re-read the radio several times too, to ensure it was reading it okay.
I agree that I should have turret sounds regardless of engine state, which is perplexing.
The reason I mentioned the arduino DIY hex, is that it was the last flash I had done, suspecting that OPConfig is using that file rather than the latest for a 'real' TCB, even though it 'says' it is selecting the correct hex file.
Windows 10 ;Winver is 1903; build 18362.356 if that means or helps...it updates automatically anymore.
As for the file attachment, I did the 'choose file' below the text box, and can go to the folder location "c:\programfiles(x86)\openpanzer\opconfig" and it shows .dll, .exe, and other files, but the .opz files do not show...hidden?? In OPConfig, of course they show up, which is curious.....

Hi Luke,
I am having difficulty getting the turret elev, and rotation motors to work on my King Tiger.
Tank specs: Taigen brand gearboxes w/sabertooth 2x5a Sbus receiver Frsky XSR and 9x radio with XJT module NiMh battery Stock Taigen elev/rot motors Taigen airsoft cannon Taigen sound card Smoker unplugged IR mushroom receptacle\IR emitter OPTCB Dip Sw: Off/Off/On/On/On Fight/repair sw to fight
The elevation and turret motors test okay with 7.2v battery Wiring is tested okay
Noticed these anomalies:
1) When in snoop mode, even though radio is calibrated per instructions the elevation (ch3) and rotation (ch4) channel calibration per snoop is off a bit: low was calibrated to 989, but snoop shows 1024, and high was calibrated to 2012 but snoop shows 1976. The throttle and turn channels calibrated and snoop agree. 2) When engine/transmission is disengaged and operating the stick for elevation or rotation results in no sound for either. Which is counter to other tanks. When engine/transmission is engaged, I get sound but no output to the elevation nor rotation motors.
I measure 0.165 volts on DC scale at the outputs of either A or B motor output, regardless of stick position.
All other functions seem to operate okay.
The last flash operation I performed was the DIY hex load to my arduino mega, last week....which seemed to go okay.
This has to be something simple I've overlooked? this TCB was just moved from my StugIIIG to the King Tiger but worked okay previous to this move.
Am I missing something obvious?
As a side note, and if you want I'll put it into a different topic, I now get an error when updating to the new OPConfig. It says: Shell execute Code 299. Only part of ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory was completed. It comes up temporarily after Windows tries to block the program, and you have to tell it that it is okay. The OPConfig execute file then loads it all up okay.
I don't know if this is part of the issue?? I would attach the .opz file, but alas, this program can't access .opz files for some reason....is there a trick I must have forgotten?
Thanks, Jerry

Hi Luke, I guess I explained it poorly. I'm putting 7.4 volts onto vin on the arduino board and not using 5v out of the arduino for anything. The sabertooth is also powered by the 7.4 volt source. I'm using a 5v source independent of the arduino for the receiver, sound board, etc., connected to a common ground.
Perhaps the little jumpers are too small to feed the arduino power in? causing a voltage drop and the voltage shutdown??

Thanks Luke, I overlooked the pinout pdf, thinking it was just for the TCB.....dooh!
So I got the dip switch included with jumpers, but still no joy on the staying running. I then hooked up an LED for the MG, and it was blinking like a low voltage issue. So I disabled the LV cutoff, and bingo it now stays running. I'm using an external source for all 5 volt power, and I checked with my Fluke, all voltages rock solid at 5v and 7.2v. However, the MG light blinks on startup, etc. but no machine gun sound nor blinking from pin 20. Hmmmm, more work to do.
Fun to be trouble shooting again....

Hi all,
So I'm getting started on this, and have a Mega, a spare sabertooth, a spare taigen sound card, etc. all plugged into a test board. I'm having trouble understanding where to plug in the DIP switch inputs. The OP schematic shows pins 91,92,87,86,85 for sw 1 thru 5. Yet the Mega diagrams don't show those pins coming out? Are they reassigned in the DIY firmware?
Also, I seem to have gotten the board to respond to PPM, and can start it (engine starting sound) but then it automatically shuts down, won't stay running. Any thoughts? so far all the DIP inputs are not connected, is that the issue perhaps?
thanks, Jerry

Okay, just getting started after vacation and the roofing contract from hell....
Simple question: I tried to get registered on the St. Petersburg Tank Forum, and couldn't pass the 'non-robot' test: What is the correct response for 'Tank Leningrad'?

I'm very intrigued about your success on the acoustic smoker. How does it push out the smoke?? I understand that the speaker cone moves up and down, pushing the air in and out through the hole to the smoke chamber, but without a check valve in there somewhere, how can it push out the smoke?? Isn't the net displacement of air zero?
Just curious.....since I tried a poor attempt at making one, with obviously no success. Yours looks great, and I'm now working on a KT too.....

Hi Luke,
Well, I am now in need of one or two more TCBs, and have been reading up on using the Arduino Mega. Having no experience with arduino's, could you suggest:
1) a vendor/manufacturer of preferred board with as many components which would make the transition minimal hassle?
2) a complete wiring diagram, which includes lights, sabertooth, etc. which the DIY firmware will work with? The latest one you posted is great, but missing the LED side, I think? 3) any other components which are needed IE: transistors/etc. for inverting the Sbus signal....I assume we need to make a small board to interface this? or any other components needed to emulate the TCB. 4) anyone to contact with success, willing to share pictures, etc?
Anyways, thanks for all the awesome help. All my tanks are working well, so tackling a DIY seems to be the next step.....and I have this KT I'm assembling from bits which needs a brain.....

Hi Luke,
Thanks for the kind words, and especially for the programming. All tested perfect, and 7 airsoft+IR tanks are updated.
Thanks again,

Hi Luke,
Thanks for the explanation on the rumor....too bad something isn't happening.
Back to the topic at hand, I ran the Panther today, all is good, and all my other tanks worked flawlessly re: the random hit scenario... Great work, BTW.
A small issue did pop up though, not related to this, so perhaps I should start a new thread? When Airsoft is disabled, all is good, but after enabling, and shooting with it while moving only, the track recoil will no longer coordinate with the sound and the airsoft shot when sitting still, but instead the track recoil timing changes and occurs initially, when you hit the cannon fire switch.
It won't reset to the proper coordination unless you turn the tank power off and on, then it will coordinate again. Very repeatable, so that is really good....Apparently something changes when the tank is moving and you fire the airsoft, setting the timing for the recoil to occur initially on cannon fire instead of waiting for the airsoft switch to open?
Thanks again, Jerry

Luke,
That was QUICK!!
And a video to boot.....thank you so much.
So I pulled down the Panther, ran the turret/gun elevation around/up & down and FINALLY got it to misbehave (I was worried since this time it took a few minutes...go figure). And then I downloaded the latest firmware and loaded, and of course, OPConfig needed the latest version, and of course, my anti virus (AVG) said it needed to check out the new software since it MAY have malware.....sheeze. Eventually, all loaded and ready to test:
I mapped channel 8 to the IR toggle on Aux 4, checked and it turns on (slow then fast blink) and off (fast then slow blink)....check
I snooped and it shows 'cannon fire (IR)' or just 'cannon fire '....check
Then checked IR output with another tank, and receive/hit.....all works good. .....check
Pulled out the multimeter, and yes the voltage on the signal pin is now at 5v, either with IR enabled or disabled. .....check
So far, it has not misbehaved, and I ran about 5 minutes or so, and the Panther was the most active. I'll update all my other tanks (9), this week and see if the SU or the Pershing still have issues, but I think it is now fixed.
This is so great....now, about that rumor?
Thanks again!!
Jerry
