Its been a long while since I've posted or engaged in this hobby.  Boy was I pleased to see how far its come in a couple of years.  New models, new mother boards.  Exciting stuff.  I've reconsidered selling my stuff off now that I see whats been happening.  I'm posed with a new question now. 

Is the TCB compatible with Heng Long 7.0+ boards?  In this thread ( regarding the 6.0, there was discussion about the 6.0 using Tamiya code.  I assume this is also the case with the 7.0's but I don't know for sure.

Also, does anyone know if the Heng Long wiring kit with IR emitter and battle apple will work with the TCB?

A quick update.  I swapped a gearboxes on this model and had the same issue in the OP.  All connections checked out from the TCB to the ESC and then the motors.  I swapped the polarity of the motor that wasn't behaving as expected and the issue resolved.

Thanks Luke, I assumed as much but wanted to confirm. 

One more related question, is it possible to reduce voltage to one of those outputs through OP Config?  I see a "default low" option for the I/O outputs.  After testing the camera on the OP board I noticed it got pretty warm.  The camera came off a 1s micro drone that runs at 3.7v.  I still need to measure the output voltage off the drones flight controller.

Which output should I use to power a micro FPV camera?  I assume the AUX but it appears that intended for lighting.

Did as suggested Luke and resolved the issue.  I believe my left and right ESC's were swapped although I can't be sure that was the cause because I also setup the radio again and made sure it wrote to the OP after selecting "done reading".  Regardless, one of those suggestions did the trick and the tank is performing as expected now.

I'll also note that before I setup the radio again I swapped the polarity from the ESC's to the motors and the channels were still swapped.

The ability to manipulate the tanks behavior is simply awesome.  You can really tune it to achieve the look and feel of the real thing.

Hey all,
I cant figure out the issue with this for the life of me.  I have a Turnigy 9x (mode 1) with an iA8 AFHDS 2A receiver.  Its set to mode 1 in the firmware.  I setup the radio in OP config according to instructions and the right stick (mode 1) is assigned correctly to throttle, up/down (chan 3) and steering, left/right (chan 1).  OP config see's them correctly however when I operate the tank the controls are swapped.  Up/down controls steering and left/right the throttle.  This is further confirmed because when I change the forward and reverse speed under the "limit driving speed" menu the tank turns slower in neutral steer.  Also, changing the max neutral turn speed affects the forward/reverse speed.

I tried swapping the channel order and can control the tank properly but then the settings under driving then don't behave correctly because they're inverted as described above.  The tings for Forward/reverse speed is affected by "max neutral turn speed" settings and vise versa. 

I suspect this is a tx setting issue but I'm new to the 9x (and modern RC in general).  The model type in the radio is set to "acro".  The receiver is correctly connected to the ibus/ppm/non-inverted serial port on the OP board.  I did swap it to the sbus port and the tank behaves in the same manner with no changes made to the transmitter.  The tx is also set to PPM under the "MODULAT" menu and PPM i-bus under the "output select" menu. I also swapped the tx settings to PWM and the tank has a mind of its own.  The motors run without any tx input.

I should also mention that I'm using the Hobby King xcar 45A ESC's and both are programmed to "Crawler" mode.  OP config is set to Tank (Dual drive motors), RC Output, and I'm using the built-in drivers for turret elevation/traverse.  Also, the red positive pin on the ESC's was removed as indicated in the wiki.

I'm hoping that I don't need to flash ER9x (although I may want to anyway) so i can change the channel order on the tx by swapping Chan 1 and 3 so it doesn't affect the OP config settings.

Any insight is appreciated.

I think I can help with this.  I have the mode 1 version of the 9x and had the same issue.  The aux channels aren't activated out of the box.  You activate them by holding "menu" then switch to: "func setting> page 2/2> aux-ch".  aux-ch is on the second page, bottom right.  In there you can assign the auxiliary channel to the switch you want.  Look at the labels on the two position switches and pot switches that are physically on your radio. They'll correspond the menu options i.e. "gear, thro hold" etc.  null means the switch isn't assigned to a channel.

Funny you mention this.  It would be fantastic.  I was just looking for line drawings of the RU-251 online a few nights ago to use for a scratch build.  Needless to say, I found none.

I recall vaguely that I asked that question long ago and the answer was uncertain.  I've wondered the same thing though.  It would be great if the TCB could read the signals from the GSU to stabilize the turret/barrel. 

I wouldn't even know how to start testing that even if I had a GSU in hand.

A couple of questions regarding using the Mega before the TCB arrives:

I plan on using a pair of HobbyKing X-Car 45's for ESC's.  Where would I plug them into the Mega?  The same pins as listed in the TCB Pinout?  Same method as described in the wiki for the TCB?

If using the Mega, would it be IR battle capable (with the battle apple of course) or would this function be limited to the TCB?

And finally a general question about the TCB; is it compatible with the DBU?
I ask because is far less expensive than the Tamiya system and may appeal to those willing to engage in a project like this anyway.

I think your final suggestion makes the most sense and is really the result I would be after anyway.  Do you think the protocol could be added to the PCB by way of an Arduino sketch?  I'll do some research to see whats been done already.  maybe it has some application here too.

As an aside, the PS3 controller is appealing to me, and maybe others, because of its ergonomics.  It may also be attractive to younger generations who are already familiar with it.

Hello all!  In considering a radio setup to pair with the TCB (and after reading the wiki) I remembered another project I came across.  The creator made a PCB for a PS3 controller to utilize the XBee transceiver to control his projects.  It uses and AtMega328P  processor and I believe the XBee he used utilizes wifi to transmit data but I'm unclear on if this would work with the TCB.  I believe the receiver uses serial protocol (same as PPM?) which I think will work with the TCB but can anyone confirm that this sort of thing will work?

In my own research of this project it seems like the StabiWii will function on the Crius 2.6 flight controller as well:

I had a hard time finding specs on the Crius 2.6 but the 2.5 ( ) uses a HMC5883L 3-axis digital magnetometer and BMP085 digital pressure sensor.  Neither of which appear to be utilized by StabiWii but I could be wrong.  It can also support a GPS receiver + I2C-GPS NAV Board.  I don't believe the magnetometer and pressure sensor are included on the NanoWii.  All that is to say that the Crius may be had for nearly the same price as the NanoWii with the added possibilities coming from two additional on board sensors.

The addition of a GPS sensor may open the possibility of programing a tank to follow a route, loiter, or orbit an objective much like a quadcopter's flight plan can be programmed through these boards.

I hope to purchase one of these flight controllers to test StabiWii in conjuction with an Arduino Mega until the TCB is available.
