Title: OP Config failed to load
Post by: rockchuck on April 16, 2026, 12:53:54 AM
Hello
I'm building another tank and have installed  TCB that had older firmware on it so I used my Win 7 laptop with OP Config on it to upgrade the firmware to the TCB which it did correctly. The existing OP Config then informed me that the latest TCB firmware needed the latest OP Config firmware. I proceeded to download and install the latest OP config which it appeared to install correctly.
However when I tried to run the new version of OP Config it failed to load and displayed an error message" GetCurrentPackageFullName --could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNAL32.dll"

So I have a TCB that I can't communicate with.
Any help would be appreciated
thanks

Hi John,

That kernel32.dll is not part of OP Config, but is something to do with Windows 7, and so far as Google has been able to enlighten me, indicates that Windows doesn't think that OP Config is compatible with Windows 7. About a year ago there was a major update of OP Config that maybe was the cause of this, since it certainly did previously work with Windows 7.

Maybe it's possible to get it to work on Windows 7, but since I no longer have that operating system I'm unable to troubleshoot it. What you can try instead is to use an older version of OP Config (and TCB firmware).

You'll want to uninstall the OP Config you put on there, and then download version 0.93.78 (dated 11/3/2024) from the OP Config prior releases page (https://openpanzer.org/forum/index.php?page=prioropconfig). This was the last version before the major update so I'm assuming it would still be compatible with Windows 7, but I can't be sure.

Install that on your computer and see if it can run ok. If so, then you will also need to flash the corresponding old firmware onto your TCB. You want 0.93.78 again (the TCB firmware is dated 3/6/2024, and you can download it here (https://openpanzer.org/forum/index.php?page=priortcb). You'll have to right-click on the 0.93.78 link and select "Save link as" to save the hex file to your computer (otherwise it will just show you the hex in your browser).

In OP Config, go to the Firmware tab, and rather than clicking the "Get Latest Release" button, click the "Use your own Hex" button instead, and then select the 0.93.78 hex file you downloaded, then flash that to your TCB.

Hopefully that works, let me know.

Thanks Luke
I will try that. I might have to get a newer laptop as I have been putting it off. I have got a Win 11 desktop pc which I will load the new OP Config onto, it just isn't very portable to carry out to my shed where the tanks are.
Will OP Config etc work on a Win10 pc  as i might be able to get a cheap secondhand laptop?

thanks again
cheers

Yes, I am running OP Config without issues on both Windows 10 and 11.

Hi Luke
those files did the trick thanks. Back up and running and talking to OP Config on my old Win & laptop. I have been having some trouble with my radio being recognized by OP config and swapped from iBus to S Bus to get it working but still a bit flaky.
Does the TCB module radio component suffer from emf interference or noisy power from the motors , esc's and maybe even the speaker. It is very cramped in the KV-1 that I just put together.

cheers

Hey John, that's good to know the old firmware still works on Win 7, I will put a note to that effect on the downloads page.

It's entirely possible you're having EMF issues with your radio connection. I don't think it's as likely to be the TCB itself as the receiver. It's true, the inside of a tank is a cramped place and often there's not much choice for where things can go. But to the extent possible, I'd try to keep the receiver antennas away from the noisy stuff, and the signal lead from the receiver to the TCB as short as possible. I know those two things may be mutually exclusive! But at any rate you could experiment with different placements and see if that helps.
