Luke-
I was wondering if you can help provide some direction on this question: Is it possible to add a picture to a personal message?
I have searched all of the links at the bottom of this page. The closest I came to an answer was with the Simple Machines Forum Online Manual (https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Main_Page) under the "As a Regular User" section. This link wasn't very helpful, other than I now know that users are limited to a paltry 4+ billion messages on the forum ::) (weak attempt at humor here). I suspect it may not be possible to embed an image into a PM as the "Attachments and other options" link doesn't exist in PM's as it does in the regular forum message interface. Any help you can lend would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
it is not possible...
A easy solution is, put the picture on a server an link this in the massage.

Thanks for helping me out with this. Sounds like I'd have to go and set up a server to host pictures then.

Yeah, sorry for the slow reply, but that is not a feature of this forum software, nor do I think I've seen it on any other forum either, as it would raise all sorts of security issues.
I would suggest that if you are in contact with another user and want to send them a file, just exchange email addresses and then carry on the conversation that way.

Thanks Luke, appreciate it. I'm guessing that SimpleMachines/Portal uses the same standardized set of icons for both forum and PM's even though not all actually work for PM's.
-
Yeah it's the same layout for both, but there are extra limitations on the PM side of things.

Just to add a (likely) final note to this topic as I used the following means to embed a personal picture into a PM (or any forum post as it turns out):
- Many email hosts will provide free storage for an account. In my particular case I used Google which provides 15GB of free storage
- Navigate to your hosts photo section

- Upload the photo you want to share into that public folder
- Copy the image address of the photo
- Embed the image address into the PM
My thanks for jhamm and LukeZ for helping get me to this understanding.
