Scout Hardware
Rev 11 7/14/2018 |
The only change in Revision 11 of the Scout ESC hardware is that the motor driver chips are changed from the VNH2SP30 (now obsolete) to their replacements, the VNH5019. These chips have the same specifications as the old ones except they can handle input voltages up to 24 volts as opposed to 16 volts. The new chips have different pin orders so some slight re-routing has been done, therefore Rev 11 PCBs and stencils are not compatible with prior hardware revisions, and neither are the firmwares! Otherwise all components remain the same.

FatFingers Shield v2 7/25/2020 |
For those wishing to build their own DIY TCB Gerald Rude created this shield intended to be used with a RobotDyn Mega 2560 Pro or other small form-factor Arduino 2560 boards, often called Mega Pro or Pro Mini. The shield is built using almost entirely through-hole components for ease of assembly and the few SMD components are easy to solder by hand.
Note: When you flash the firmware to your Arduino, be sure to select the "TCB - DIY Version" firmware in OP Config.

Baldock Shield Rev A 6/3/2022 |
This is Richard Baldock's shield design. Like the FatFingers shield it is intended for use with the small form-factor Arduino 2560 boards, often called Mega Pro or Pro Mini.
This design leaves off several aspects of the original TCB which however many people don't need anyway, and the result is a simple design with very few components, all of which
are through-hole for easy assembly.
Things to note: this does not include onboard motor drivers so ESCs will need to be used for turret motors. There is no motor serial connection
so main drive motors will also need to be ESCs (ie, no Sabertooth). IR functionality is not included, and the radio input only accepts iBus or PPM (no SBus). Mechanical recoil/airsoft is also not included,
but you can use servo recoil. What is included: all 8 servo outputs, all light outputs, smoker, Taigen flash, and the ability to run Taigen or Benedini sound cards.
Note: When you flash the firmware to your Arduino, be sure to select the "TCB - DIY Version" firmware in OP Config.

Heclo Shield
Hardware v1 7/9/2020
Firmware v0.93.71 9/7/2020 |
User Heclo has created a TCB shield for use with any Arduino-compatible Mega2560 board. The shield provides all the components needed for both the TCB and the Open Panzer Sound card on a single board. It also adds two additional onboard motor drivers capable of delivering up to 30 amps each - in other words, this design creates a complete tank control package with no need for external speed controls or sound cards (though those are still supported).
The board uses surface mount components on both the top and bottom of the board, so requires advanced assembly skills if you want to attempt to build your own.
Because the hardware is not entirely the same it requires its own special version of firmware, which can be downloaded in OP Config on the Firmware tab by selecting the "TCB - Heclo Shield" entry in the Hex file drop down.

Rongyos Tank IR 5/23/2024 |
User Rongyos has created a small board that adds Tamiya IR battle capabilities to Heng Long / Taigen or other controllers which would not otherwise be compatible with that standard. The board is easy to assemble
and uses a standard Arduino Nano for the processor. By monitoring the stock airsoft pin from the Heng Long / Taigen MFU it knows when to send the Tamiya IR signal. Medium or heavy weight class can be selected
by a jumper on the board. The tank is immobilized by the use of an inexpensive dual relay module controlled by the IR board, which temporarily disconnects the gearboxes when a hit is received or when the
tank is destroyed. As an added bonus the IR board also provides the ability to use a recoil servo in case your stock MFU does not support one.
