The Open Panzer Project

The Open Panzer project is an attempt to design open source electronics for use in RC tanks and other military models.

RC tanking is one of the most fascinating corners of the RC hobby today, but also one of the smallest and slowest-growing. It is our hope that making open-source hardware and software available will be instrumental in expanding the hobby and improving the experience for everyone.

The principal Open Panzer design is called simply the TCB ("Tank Control Board"). This is a tank controller with many features not found in other devices on the market. It also has some unique requirements that most other control boards do not, for example, the TCB requires external speed controls for tank motion. These can be standard hobby ESCs or dual motor serial controllers. A nearly infinite variety of configuration options are handled through a Windows desktop program called OP Config.

Because of its unique abilities and requirements, we recommend you familiarize yourself with the documentation available in the Wiki. If the options seem overwhelming or beyond your requirements, we recommend that you use one of the more commonly available controls boards on the market from companies such as Heng Long, Taigen, Clark, IBU, etc...

Other designs include a sound card, dual motor controller, light controller for RC cars and other models, and various user adaptations of the TCB. All these are open source and more details can be found on the Downloads page.
