M1A2 Abrams (brushless)
« on: May 04, 2018, 12:46:37 PM »
Hi! :)

Finally Abrams is alive. Sound is configured. Here is test video with 2s LiPo:

I printed gearboxes. Motors are 900kv with 1:30 reduction. I tested also with 3s LiPo and it has better speed.

Next stage will be brushless stabilization with Storm32 controller.

Wow, looking very good, driving is smooth and the sound is synchronized very well. Are your printed gearboxes the same ones discussed here on RCU?

I have been skeptical of brushless motors in tanks but yours seem to be geared appropriately. If the gearbox can be worked out I can see the brushless motors may offer more torque in a comparable amount of space than brushed.

Please keep us posted on your gimbal experiments. It would be great to find some off-the-shelf components to utilize for this purpose.

I have similar design of gearboxes :) But I see first time those from RCU.

My bevel gears are made from steel, not brass. I also added bearing on 6mm shaft on gear reductor for better stiffness.

I love brushless motors - so small and so much torque.

I also bought mine plow from DKLMRC. It will be motorized. I will connect motors to internal ESC

I am hunting the gimbal functionality also at the moment. No idea how far Amaral is, but for the record i found this info about the storm32 http://rsflightronics.com/diy-3-axis-handheld-gimbal-for-action-cam

Especially part 2 with the Joystick control is quite intetesting..
