Luke,
As a side note on the latest changes, now the smoker switch is in the enable position initially even though it shows disabled in snoop. Once the switch is cycled, it can be disabled/enabled okay, its just in the wrong position initially. I recall this has been an issue in the past with the airsoft switch.

Hi Luke, I played around with your setting changes, but though a little improved its still not acting like the Clark: Here is my best at the settings on a TCB controlled T55A though the gearboxes are different, and it has plastic tracks. Settings are 1/50 I believe and the tank moves two links back. Can I hook up a scope to try and capture the pulse the Clark is producing? Not sure if I can do that, but will give it a go if you feel it will help. Jerry

Hi again, sorry I forgot to reply to what I have tried. I have moved both factors around, and so far the best I get is a decel factor of 2 (1 seems to be a little inconsistent) and a velocity of 20 percent. At this setting, the tracks just barely move back, but the body of the tank doesn't really react like with the Clark. Once I increase velocity to about 50 the tank reacts with enough energy, but then it will move back a few inches. Jerry

Hi Luke, Thanks for the reply, here is the video link: of my T55A recoil. Note how quick the body of the tank reacts, and the barrel recoils but the tank doesn't move. I really would like to update the control to a TCB, but I can't give up the recoil  If you can add a shorter decel factor in the next update, that would be grand. Jerry

I hope your holidays were pleasant.
I'm working on fine tuning the recoil on my TCBs, but I can't seem to get it right.
I have a T55A by Hooben with a Clark TK22 board that its only redeeming quality is the recoil. The tank will not move, but rocks back on the suspension as the barrel retracts, and this is the best recoil action of all my tanks.
When adjusting the TCBs, the deceleration factor at level one is too wimpy, but when I boost the velocity percent, the tank will then move back too far. Would it be possible to get a smaller increment of deceleration factor so I can boost the velocity up and get it to rock back? As Kevin at RCTanks Australia used to describe it as a "Jab back" for a proper recoil action.

Actually, I'm willing to be I know what your problem is. Note that the radio input signal gets routed to two pins on the Mega - Arduino pin 3 for PPM, and Arduino pin 15 for iBus/inverted SBus. Probably you have just routed the receiver to pin 3 and not also to 15.
And you would have won. That was the issue, since only one line is shown on the schematic, I thought only one lead was there....but apparently two are needed. Once I connected to pin 15, the lights all went out, and the engine sound would start, and all seems now to work.... On to the next challenge. Thanks a bunch Luke, remind me not to bet against you in the future

When you say you tried using the "converter with the SBus output", do you mean you tried using the PWM-to-PPM converter on the SBus output? That will not work since the converter will only work with PWM input. But I do note that the XSR also has a PPM output. Since you know your Mega is reading PPM just fine, you could try connecting the PPM output of your XSR directly to the Mega, for that test you won't need the converter or the inverter. The converter I'm using (HK) has both PPM and Sbus outputs. I hooked up the XSR CPPM output and it worked well, like the 9x reciever did on PPM output. So both receivers are in good order. I wonder if it could be something as simple as the receiver just not being bound correctly to your transmitter module. I rebound, just to be sure, no change.... So I connected up my trusty Tektronix TAS 465 dual channel scope, (be kind as I think I use this thing once every 5 years). Channel one to the input to the inverter, and Channel two to the output. The input square wave is about 2.5v high, whereas the output is about twice that. So the transistor is amplifying the signal? I checked with both sets of resistors (6.8k/2.2k & 47k/10k) and the ouputs appear about the same. This signal is being inverted, just by too much?? Should I now go for the through hole equivalent of the BC848 (I think its a BC548)? Jerry

Hi Luke, thanks for the quick reply. I'm pulling my hair out on this one!! So I have my trusty Mega2560 by Elegco on my testing breadboard thingy, which is nice for doing this trial and error testing. BTW, sorry for the layout drawing, I meant to post a pic of the 'shield', if that is the right term, so I modified it. I've tried both sets of resistors, the arduino likes neither. I have ppm working fine from a 9x pwm xmtr through a converter to ppm. When I try hooking up the inverter, using a FrSky XSR receiver, no radio is detected (both from blinking leds, and from snooping 'waiting for radio'). So I tried the 9x with converter using the sbus output, still no go. I put a voltmeter from input to output on the inverter circuit, and get 3.27vdc, which to me seems that the signal is getting inverted? Am I right in thinking that? Is it perhaps that this transistor is too slow for the frequency of the sbus signal? I guess its time to drag out the scope? This is really crazy....its got to be something simple.....so I can start kicking myself.  Jerry

I'm working away on a breadboard version now. I'm testing, and using the BC337 for the sbus inversion isn't working?? are the resistors going to work with this substitution into the current schematic? I see the turn on voltage is 1.2vdc for the 337, vs 700mv for the BC848?

So I just fit your design into a KV-2 Taigen. Here is a picture. Works great now, larger speaker, and more smoke. Nothing to modify, it fits in nice and tight.
What software do you use to design the .stl files?? I would like to do something for my T55A, T34 and Sherman.

So I now have two tanks with the smoker working with your 3D printed boxes/TCB mounts. Works a treat. As for improvements, well, would it be possible to print in the lower half of the smoker box? That way no drilling or cutting up a good smoker. My son printed mine in PLA, which I'm not sure would take the temperatures?? If printed in ABS, that should be okay?? Now if we can get just the smoker resistor, after printing the top of the box, we would be golden.
I really like that I have better sound now, as well as no pesky smoker noise in the background, as well as better smoke flow.

BTW, the KT set also fits the Taigen Panther, with a minor mod of chamfering the speaker box bottom to fit flush with the bottom plastic. In case others are interested.....

Coincidentally my son now has access to a 3D printer, and he printed up a couple of speaker boxes, and battery/TCB holders for me....it fits a treat in my KT. Thanks a bunch.
As for the smoke flow, it didn't have enough push to put out enough through the tubes and exhaust pipes. I could remove the tubes from the HL smoker box, and it would do okay, but not connected up. So I drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the side of the box, location not important, and superglued a thin piece of plastic film from an old ipod lense cover over the hole on the inside....only one side of the piece (about 1/2 inch by 1.5 inches long) to make a rough reed valve configuration. Then I also sealed the speaker wire hole with hot glue. Now it is working much better to pump out the smoke.

I just noticed the new version when trying to load an older one to isolate when the bug came in. So I flashed the new one in, and that did it...all is back to normal!!
