Open Panzer Help / Re: Binden Th9X
« on: January 27, 2022, 02:08:43 PM »
Hi Kettenpaul, as Jhamm already told you, the frsky receivers are not compatible with the Flysky AFHDS modules and you will never be able to bind it. You need to get a multiprotocol module (about 35 Eur in Aliexpress) and also I strongly recommend to flash new software in the radio, which can be ER9X or OpenTX,because the stock firmware makes the radio unusable. If you don't know how to do it I could do it for you.

I still use an 9x as a main radio and I am not planning to replace it with anything else for the next 15 years. If you are curious of what I did with it, you can take a look here: https://radindustries.wordpress.com/2020/07/25/my-radio/

Hope it helps.

Ok, sooner than expected, the fix is here. Big thanks to Mr Heclo. :)

Small but important update here. I lacked SD card reader so I could not test it until the one I ordered arrived. Took ages to arrive from the far East, sigh...

Well, the thing is, the version with 24 user sounds that Heclo did is not working correctly, but he is working in a new one. I (or he) will upload it here as soon as we have a version working.

Agree with the infinite list of functions, but also I think it that can be polished a bit. Of course I am just one user of the many in the planet, but for example I believe Instead of having the function "User sound X stop" in my opinion is enough with the function "User sounds stop all". I have never ever used "User sound X stop" function. Neither "user sound X repeat", if I want to repeat a sound, I just trigger it again.

And all the other functions, for example triggering on and off lights, I only use toggle. But hey, that is just me, lol.

But anyway, thanks for your time and I understand this function almost nobody else will use it. Pity, I love user sounds most than anything else.

Anyway Ill keep an eye on future OP Config releases with that delay between sound banks, maybe I can add the extra user sounds myself and at least I will learn something trying!

Hi Luke, yes, indeed I might be the only person in the planet willing to use the 24 user sounds with the Open Panzer, but well, if it is easy to add (or even is already done), why not? It wont hurt.

Great you want to implement the new sound delay function, but the problem for me will be that if I update to your next software version, I will lose the 24 user sounds that Heclo added, is that correct?

I wish I could write the code myself. Is there any easy way that I can add the Heclo add-on to future releases of your software?

World is a napkin. The other day I found Heclo in a Facebook group and we were talking about the board and user sounds. I told him I wanted to have more and he wrote the code (Attached file)

That is amazing, big thanks, Heclo. It would be great if you include this in future releases, Luke.

Unfortunately I cannot test it because my SD card reader has died. I just ordered one, but over the paper it should work. :)

EDIT 16.01.2022

The software linked in this post does not work. Please scroll down to the reply 26, a working firmware has been uploaded there.

Sometimes terrifyes me to see how fast the time flyes, my godness. Several years since I opened this thread... But I hope is not too late for adding new features!

After having user sounds in this board, some other boards followed the path and included the function or expanded the number of available sounds too. The thing is, now I am used to play 24 user sounds, and so far, with the OP soundcard we can play """""only"""" 12. Could you please update the code so we can play up to 24? This is specially useful and enjoyable when directing tank platoons and giving all the orders to the other tanks in meetings or while playing with the children.

Now I also trigger those functions using another logic switches combinations. A 6 position switch plus 4 push buttons at the back of the radio. So when the switch is in position 1, I have 4 commands easily triggeable, in position 2 another 4, in position 3 another 4, so that makes 12 and would be amazing to have until 24 commands and I will love you even more, lol.

Another function that I'd like to add, if possible, is a delay between the sound bank auto loop play. Could it be possible to manually set the delay? Something between 30 to 45 seconds would be fine. If not, I can always add silence at the end of each track.

Would it be possible?

Thanks!

Open Panzer Help / Re: Smoke questions.
« on: August 19, 2020, 01:12:23 PM »
Thanks for your experiments, JPS99, I apreciate every info :)

At the very beginning of my hobby I managed to do this video:

That machine is running with an old heng long RX18 with an RC5HL adaptor for hobby grade radios.

I always run 12V fan because when running 5v I found they push way too much air on the unit, so the smoke leaves the exhaust with way too much pressure. Also the fans end burning too. With 12V fan I never had a problem.

It worked good enough, but after a while it gets very hot. I ended wiring it to an external ESC and controlling the voltage with a potentiometer in the radio. But still I am triying to make the ultimate smoke machine, lol

Hi Luke, thanks for the answer.

The thing is I have been experimenting for years with smoke machines with mixed results. I think I have tested every thing I have read in forums, including the thread you already linked me. Those wirewound resistors, normal resistors, a piece of a hairdryer... Last thing I tested last week was almost what is showed in this video:
But instead a 0.5W I tried with 0.25 and with 1W and with both cases after a while I got heaps of smoke, but the plastic enclosure was horrible hot, almost untoucheable, that even melts the hoses. Also with the bluetooth Elmod app I could see a voltage drop of about 2 volts when the smoke generator was running. Definitelly this does not sound like the way to go. I seriously even wonder if all those threads are from people that tested the smoke machines for 30 seconds instead of running them for longer times.

As mentioned above, I blew the RX18 several times, but when I managed to have a working machine, it blew the smoke output in my ASP board. The smoke machine never worked fine with that board, not even the stock one, so I guess it was more of a board issue. Repairing it was a pain by the way (attached pics)

After the ASP experience last thing I want to is to damage any of the other boards, so I decided to ask everybody. The answers I got so far are:
the one you wrote us. (thanks again, by the way!)
Kevin from RC tanks australia does not recommend any resistor but nichrome wire, about 20cm long, but with unknown thickness. (not knowing the thickness is critic, the thicker it is, the shorter it will be!)
Ian, distributor of IBU said that the TARR Smokers they sell use a small wound metal element which is about 15ohms resistance, and the IBU smoke port is capable of 1Amp.

I will ask also Elmod and Clark. Great think the niche of this hobby is so small that everybody is reacheable, lol.

Anyway I really wonder if there is a definitive answer. It is like the TARR smokers, some people says they produce heaps of smoke and some other say they produce almost nothing or none at all. I really do wonder why so many mixed answers everywhere, besides using different smoke fluids.

By my side, I dont nead a smoke curtain, just something that is visible and does not burn itself or damages the board. Sometimes is hard to know if the smoke machine is working or burning, lol.

Anyway, I will update the thread with all the experiments. I guess somebody can find this useful.

Hi Luke, after years messing with smoke generators I am a bit stuck and I guess you know much better than me what to do.

My first Heng Long smoke generator did not last long, and back in the day I replaced the pump with a 25mm fan and the heating element with diferent resistors with tons of different values according to the results I found in google, achieving generally good amount of smoke but a super heat smoke unit, and sometimes a damaged main board.

When creating my own experiments I managed to destroy (but luckily replace) several times the transistor that controls the smoke output in an old RX18 I had. The machine that I had working in the Rx18 ended damaging the smoke port in one ASP board from RC tanks australia.

So it leads me to this point: I wish to make the smoke generator work as it should, but with no overheating and no risk to the TCB or to my Elmod board. As you can imagine damaging those boards can be catastrophic, one for unobtainable and the other for over expensive, lol.

So my question is, what resistor or what thing do you recommend me to fit in the smoke generator as a heating element? Also as a wick what do you use?

Thanks!

Open Panzer Help / Re: Barrel and turret stabilizer

Ok, I will try this new project then :)

I am curious if when the gyro moves the barrel, the TCB will play the barrel elevation sound too.

Hi Luke, I don't know if it has already been discussed here in the forum or in the wiki, but I am currently replacing the stock elevation and recoil with servos in my Tamiya tanks.

The other day I had the idea of fitting a gyro as barrel stabilizer. So far I have zero experience with gyros but I think Ill be able to do it. The question is, will it be compatible with the TCB? do I have to take care of something?

After creating the magic smoke with the soundcard and that external amp, I am more cautious than ever.

Thanks!

luckowner, I am very impressed about your soundcard too! Does it have lights output? Do you have more info, and do you plan to sell it?

Yes, you are 100% right.

The thing is, up to today, I have only looked at the +100, -100, +50 or whatever in the mixes screen. I have never, ever looked at those MS signals because I never needed them at all, and there were no other aftermarket boards mentioning them, so they were completely deleted from my mind.

But of course I was wrong and now lesson learned, and as you said, I hope it helps somebody else.
