Open Panzer Help / Smoke questions.
« on: August 15, 2020, 12:53:27 PM »
Hi Luke, after years messing with smoke generators I am a bit stuck and I guess you know much better than me what to do.

My first Heng Long smoke generator did not last long, and back in the day I replaced the pump with a 25mm fan and the heating element with diferent resistors with tons of different values according to the results I found in google, achieving generally good amount of smoke but a super heat smoke unit, and sometimes a damaged main board.

When creating my own experiments I managed to destroy (but luckily replace) several times the transistor that controls the smoke output in an old RX18 I had. The machine that I had working in the Rx18 ended damaging the smoke port in one ASP board from RC tanks australia.

So it leads me to this point: I wish to make the smoke generator work as it should, but with no overheating and no risk to the TCB or to my Elmod board. As you can imagine damaging those boards can be catastrophic, one for unobtainable and the other for over expensive, lol.

So my question is, what resistor or what thing do you recommend me to fit in the smoke generator as a heating element? Also as a wick what do you use?

Thanks!

Open Panzer Help / Barrel and turret stabilizer
« on: March 10, 2020, 05:24:26 AM »
Hi Luke, I don't know if it has already been discussed here in the forum or in the wiki, but I am currently replacing the stock elevation and recoil with servos in my Tamiya tanks.

The other day I had the idea of fitting a gyro as barrel stabilizer. So far I have zero experience with gyros but I think Ill be able to do it. The question is, will it be compatible with the TCB? do I have to take care of something?

After creating the magic smoke with the soundcard and that external amp, I am more cautious than ever.

Thanks!

Hi Luke and to all those who want to play the user sounds either in the OP soundcard or in the Benedini mini, and have a fancy radio.

I am spending tons of time and it seems I cannot find a good way to trigger the sounds. Well, at least one that makes me be 100% happy.

PLAN A
My idea is to use a 12pos switch, (I know it has not been implemented yet, for now just 9 positions)

In my radio I have fitted a 6 positions switch, and all the other switches in the radio are 3 positions. So with some programming I did something like this

ELE switch UP, + 6pos0, 6pos1, 6pos2, 6pos3, 6pos4, 6pos5. it selects the sound.
Then when I flick the RUD switch DOWN, and it triggers the previously selected sound. This way I can select and play the first 6 sounds

If I have the ELE switch DOWN, + 6pos0, 6pos1, 6pos2, 6pos3, 6pos4, 6pos5 when ficking the RUD down, it triggers the other 6 sounds but it does work with the Benedini boards.

The problem of this? Every time I move the RUD switch to neutral position, the same undesired sound is triggered. In the case of using the king tiger setup I did, the sound 5 is the one who is triggered.

I attached a pic of the software reading my radio. I think if there was a way when having this in neutral position to detect it like "Off" instead of pos 3 or something similar, it would work.

PLAN B:
The one I used at the beginning, rotating the 6 position switch to the desired position and programing some delay, so I have time to rotate it. Problem is sometimes I dont really know which sound I have selected and it is not very precise.

So can you throw me some light?

Show and Tell / My Tiger II
« on: October 07, 2019, 08:06:37 AM »
Hi guys, I have finished my King Tiger! It suffered no less than 5 repaints, and I am still not 100% happy with it, but I just wanted to finish it once and for all, lol. Of course is using a TCB, and if you want to use the same sounds, I did them and Luke uploaded them somewhere on github, so feel free to download/use/modify/improve them!

You can read a bit more about it here:
https://radindustries.wordpress.com/2019/10/07/konigstiger-ruhe/

And a short video. Sorry but you all know how hard is to film and to drive at the same time.

TCB Dev / More ideas for those who battle.
« on: September 29, 2019, 01:40:56 PM »
Hi, while messing with the user sounds for the tanks I found one asking for more ammo, and that reminded me a function that I have in an old Rctanks australia board, and is the running out of ammo function.

I think it would be great to being able to set with the open panzer config the amount of the ammo the tank is cariying. In a tank I have I put exactly the same rounds the actual tank had.

For reloading it, there were three options.
1) Being destroyed. When resurrecting you appear with your ammo again.
2) Restarting the tank. Obvious reasons.
3) Repairing the tank with IR. That can be cool, either a repair tank or a service depot using the repair protocol.

Second idea, the cannon IR protocol, among others, you can select Tamiya or Tamiya 2 shot kill. I think it would be great to be able to select the one you really want to use while battling. It would be like selecting explosive rounds or armor piercing rounds. So yeah, why not to add some way to select the ammo in the heat of battle?

I dont know, I think it adds more realism to those who might want to do everything with the tannk

Anyway, if you want to add those functions, dont rush at all. At this moment I dont battle, (my children are still to young and no tank clubs in the entire country...) But I am planning to do it as soon as they grow a bit more. So the more functions, the better. :) Anyway those are just ideas, not asking for a request.

I also always wondered why in the Opconfig there is the option "accept hits from" and you only are able to select one protocol. Why is not possible to select "all"? Is not that I needed it, but I am just curious.

Open Source Sound Dev / Wiring an amp to the OP soundcard.
« on: September 17, 2019, 11:15:41 AM »
EDIT: I ended destroying my soundcard. I don't recommend to try it to anybody, not with the Open Panzer soundcard, and not with the Benedini Mini. If you, unlike me, know what you are doing and decide to try it, do it on your own risk. If it works, please post it so we can follow your steps. If it does not, please post it too for knowing what to not to do. Time to cry for me  :'(

Hi Luke, as I mentioned somewhere, when driving at the backyard and rising the volume, the speaker cracks quite a lot. I guess this is due to the lack of power, so I am planning to wire an amp to the soundcard.

I dont know how many W is your card able to pull, but do you think I can wire one of this to the board? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32850211478.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.6a3ca40dTGQrVk&algo_pvid=b1b999d1-3ff8-4b51-9e7a-6b711e1d2a6b&algo_expid=b1b999d1-3ff8-4b51-9e7a-6b711e1d2a6b-36&btsid=41910177-2c7a-4026-a6b0-098478ef8206&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_4,searchweb201603_52

I am using them in benedini micros and they work like a charm.

Open Panzer Help / Machine gun sound glitch
« on: May 28, 2019, 03:37:10 AM »
Hi Luke, this weekend I had a small rc event, and after some extensive use I discovered a small glitch.

If you shoot the machine gun, and then you switch it off, if you switch it on again while the mg_stop.wav is playing, the machine gun will flash but with no sound at all. If you switch it off while flashing with no sound, it wont play the stop sound neither.

This happens with the first and with the second machine gun. The machine gun stop sounds I use are longer than most of what people will use, but hey, the issue is there.

Nothing serious, but I dont know, you might want to fix it.

I rocked with my tanks, and people loved the music and voices by the way :D:D:D Hope the TCB will be available again soon!

Open Source Sound Dev / Sherman R975 Sounds
« on: May 12, 2019, 08:19:33 AM »
This is the tank that is running the TCB.

In order to not to derrail the other thread with the Tiger sounds, I decided to create my own thread, to upload my beta sounds, and to update/improve/modify them after reading your feedback. I will update the thread with my eepesky file, but my radio is so modded that I highly doubt somebody will use it...

First link with the new sounds, legacy sounds and OP config file: Warning, steering reversed in the config file.

Second link with user sounds bank.

Open Panzer Help / Problem with transmission engage/disengage.
« on: May 12, 2019, 03:07:20 AM »
Hi, I think I have a glitch, or something wrong configured either in the TCB, radio or so... But the thing is, sometimes the engage/disengage transmission seems to automatically engage. It happened to me many times, and in the video I did for testing the sounds can be seen too.

Second 38. As you can heard, even the engage transmission sound is automatically played, and the tank flies away for my horror.  I broke the rear mudguards of my king tiger many times just because of that  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Am I doing something wrong or do I have some kind of glitch?

EDIT: Another thing I just noticed. Then idling, transmision disengaged and shotting the cannon, the rear light shuts of for a fraction of second. Not sure if it is normal.

Open Panzer Help / Banggood dual channel motor controllers.
« on: May 27, 2018, 02:32:58 PM »
Hi Luke, I am going to sell my Tamiya electronics, so that means I wont be able to use the Tamiya DMD with the TCB anymore. I started looking for other options and I found this:
https://www.banggood.com/DC-5-12V-30A-PWM-Dual-Channel-Motor-Control-Module-H-Bridge-Motor-Drive-Controller-Board-p-1255703.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN

Do you thing we could use it with the open panzer? If yes, this might be a great find!

EDIT: Ow, I have just read the "DC" and I think that means not radio controlled...

EDIT 2: Option B: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Brushed-ESC-320A-7-4-22-2V-Electric-Speed-Controller-for-RC-540-Dual-Motor/311928740222?hash=item48a066d97e:g:ChMAAOSw~l5aovJw

EDIT 3: I just noticed the ESC above wont work, it just has one servo plug... So yeah, looks like I have to buy a couple of the escs you recommended us in the wiki, or wait for you to release your esc...

TCB Dev / Ideas for the OP Config
« on: February 17, 2018, 03:49:53 AM »
Hi Luke, in the OP Config, I think it would be great if we had the posibility of editing the functions and triggers.

I mean, for example, imagine I programed everything from channel 1 to 16, and then suddenly I notice I did a mistake in lets say channel 7. So far the only way is to remove it and introduce it again, but then this number 7 will be at the end of all what I have done. When programming a lot sounds and functions its easier for me to be able to have them in order. (For exampple makes sense to have all the weapons sound together, the custom sounds in other group and so on) Also when experimenting, saves a lot of time just to be able to edit the function itself. So, I dont know, IMHO the way to go would be to select the programmed function, and then to click in a "Edit function" button or something like that.

Also Id apreciate a lot if you add a pop up confirmation window for uploading and downloading the config to the board. I screwed it several times when pressing the wrong button.

EDIT: Also it wont be a bad idea to be able to move the functions with a mouse!
For example, again, I programmed everything for the 16 channels, and the channel 7 is the one that plays a long custom sound. Then I notice I forgot to add the stop sound option! So after adding it to the list, it would be great if I could drag between aux 7 and 8 instead of being next to the 16th.

I guess I am, very organized, sorry. Say thanks to my mom and her slippers, lol.

Open Source Sound Dev / Sound ideas
« on: February 16, 2018, 03:18:55 PM »
Hi Luke, I am finishing some radial engine Sherman sounds. I hope to have them ready in a week or so ;D The amount of sounds the board is programed to play is adequate, but I would add the following:

1 - When the engine off, it would be cool to have a sound of manual hand cranking turret.
2 - A third machine gun sound? My Sherman has 4 machine guns! I know that is not normal, but I know some people with 3... The hull one, the turret one and the tank commander one.
3 - Auxiliar light sounds. At least another two. One could be a searchlight, and another for convoy lights, maybe even blinkers...
4 - User sounds: I love the custom user sounds more than anything else. If possible I would like to have another 6... But the more, the better!
I know for triggering those extra sounds we could be running out of channels... But there is where we could start doing mixes with the radio...

Due to I have my entire armored division in diverse states of repairs, I cant test the IR combat, but is there any "damaged" sound? Damaged idler or something like that? If not, I think it would be a good idea to include at least a "damaged idler" sound.

And I think thats all... For now, lol.

Open Panzer Help / Battery wiring.
« on: February 07, 2018, 09:42:14 AM »
I am making all the wires for fitting the TCB in a Tamiya King tiger. So far the only two left are the recoil and the battery. Well, IMHO the King Tiger is very fragile and I consider him some kind of half shelf queen, so I want to do something that nobody should do: I want to be able to charge the batteries inside the tank, just to open a hatch in the tank and connect the battery charger to a plug, and the balancer to the battery balancer. Im using a 2cell lipo on it, and I am not sure about how should I wire it without risk of shorting something opr setting the entire tank on flames.

Also If you could tell me which size of wire to use (in AWG) would be great!

At the other hand, I have seen that the battery plug in the TCB is different from the photos in the web... When I received the board I was a bit surprised about the small motor connectors (the ones with the bolts) but after using them I must confess that I really like them way more than the JST connectors. Also, for some reason it seems I keep breaking the wires in the battery plug, mostly because I open my tanks and move my boards many times, and a couple of times I think I broke it due to I used very powerfull motors and the JST connector just could not handle it. Could it be possible?

Thanks!
