Title: 1/6 Metalbox Luchs project
Post by: larryzhou on February 06, 2019, 06:24:52 AM
It is about time to share my build.

The project starts from Oct.2018, and I am performing weathering at the moment.
All the electronics are ready.
fuse box, TCB, Benedini TBSv2, Sabertooth 2*32, 2*APO esc, Henglong smoker unit

The systems will use 2*12v acid battery, the drive motors are 2*250 bushed motor.

However, I need to design an internal housing for all the electronics.

Nice model you got there! 1/6 luchs! Full metal thank is it?

Found your thread on rcuniverse: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-tanks-369/11658365-1st-thread-metalbox-1-6-panzer-luchs.html (http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-tanks-369/11658365-1st-thread-metalbox-1-6-panzer-luchs.html)

Very nice!

I will follow along with interest, here and at RC Universe both. The early Panzers (I-II-III) are my favorites. Your weathering is looking very good.

I am curious about the "APO ESC" and the larger red board highlighted in this picture. Do you have links? I am always trying to learn about new products I haven't heard about before.

ha,

the red board is an 2*60w AMP, tested by Thomas from Benedini, I guess my tank will be very loud and produces good quality sounds. I will  hook up 2* B&W speakers from my former car to it.

the APO esc is from a Chinese Robotistic company, delivers 120w each, which is more than capable to handle the elevation & turret rotation motors.

The big day is near, I will do the full test, with all the motors.

I found some APO speed controllers on AliExpress. It appears their main advantage over other options is their ability to handle moderate currents at high voltages. If someone was not running a 24 volt system, there probably would be more cost-effective solutions.

The Sabertooth 2x32 is a special case amongst the Sabertooth line, it uses a software provided by Dimension Engineering called DEScribe to alter settings. Let us know how it works for you.

Hi Lukez

if you are building it, will you set Sabertooth 2*32 to independent mode, which leaves both motor's mixing to TCB?   or leave the mixing to Sabertooth?

You definitely want the TCB to do the mixing, set the Sabertooth to independent. TCB needs to control all that in order for turn modes, momentum/inertia and other effects to work properly.

yes, sir. crystal clear.

sabertooth tested & fitted to the chassis. Also, the ground terminal is screwed. next is the power distribution fuse box, and other wiring.

Very nice! You did an excellent job on the paint. Obviously everyone here or at RCUniverse wants to see a video sometime!

I am curious if you are using any driving adjustments (momentum/inertia/nudge/turning modes) and if so what you think of them at this scale.

haha, Lukez

honestly, I find it is a pain in the ass to adjust the settings after I have put the TCB inside it. you know what I mean ^_^

now, all I want to do is to enjoy its running. TCB is second to none, without it, I wouldn't be able to do it.

I am planning a second running , this weekend.   I will shoot more footages and put them into a short film. I also bought many 1/6 figures.

Will you go to Militrack 2019?

I do know what you mean! However the turn modes and both acceleration and deceleration constraints can all be adjusted from your transmitter, if you have enough channels. I typically put the turn modes on a 3-position switch (since there are 3 modes), and assign the acceleration and deceleration to two potentiometers. I may also enable/disable neutral turns on the same 3-position switch (I usually have neutral turn enabled in turn mode 1 for fine maneuvering, and disabled on turn modes 2 and 3 which are better for faster movement).

I think you would find these "on-the-fly" adjustments useful.

Will you go to Militracks 2019?
That would be very fun I'm sure! But no, I will not be traveling to the Netherlands next month. Are you going all the way from Shanghai?!

hopefully, I can save some extra for trading in my t10J for a T16sg, then I shall have enough channels for all functions. 1/6 scale is so sweet, I don't even want to touch 1/16 anymore.........

Yeah!!! I will travel all the way to Overloon from Shanghai. It was such a pity I missed last year's, as the King Tiger showed up.
I will post some pics on rcuniverse later on.

The tank looks great on an overcast day! Your photography is obviously as good as your detailing skills. Well done.
